Disability Support For Adults
• About IRIS
IRIS (Include, Respect, I Self-Direct) is a self-directed program for Wisconsin’s frail elders and adults with disabilities. You have to be eligible for Medicaid to be in the IRIS program.
When you join IRIS, a budget is established for you based on your long-term care needs and goals. You get to decide what goods, support, and services will help you achieve your goals and, using your budget, you will help create a support and service plan to meet your needs. Your IRIS services will be there to help you live a meaningful life.
• Getting IRIS
The first step is to contact your local aging and disability resource center (ADRC). ADRC representatives offer free, unbiased information about long-term care options and resources in Wisconsin for older adults, people with disabilities, and their families.
Resources for Employment Help
People with disabilities need good jobs too, and several U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) agencies assist people with disabilities in seeking meaningful work and succeeding once on the job. DOL also advises employers on effective strategies for recruiting and retaining qualified people with disabilities, as well as educates federal agencies and federal contractors and sub-contractors about their obligations related to affirmative action and nondiscrimination in hiring.
Disability Support for Children
• Children’s Long-Term Support
The Children’s Long-Term Support (CLTS) Program is a Home and Community-Based Service (HCBS) waiver that funds community supports and services for children who have substantial limitations in their daily activities and need support to remain in their home or community. Eligible children include those with developmental disabilities, severe emotional disturbances, and physical disabilities. Funding can be used to support a range of different services based on an assessment of the needs of the child and his or her family.
